‘SORT THE BASTARD THING OUT’

THIS WEEKS EPISODE; AYE AYE SKIPPER.

Engineers are canny creatures, since the first engine was built by somebody, there have been guys appearing out of nowhere wringing their oily hands and shaking their heads at your ’engine’, and knowing how to fix stuff you couldn’t even imagine could be wrong with your combustion device

Anyway, they’re canny.

Which is why we now find Firsty staring at a door completely convinced that behind this door was the ships’ engine room.

Firsty stood there, he was not a huge man by any means, but as the Captain had mentioned times when they were sparring or ended up in a drunken brawl with each other, ‘You Firsty, have hidden strength.’

He took off his flying dogs combat jacket, engine rooms are generally hot places, revealing his space Navy striped shirt, he scratched his short wirey beard, picked up his tool bag and moved towards the glowing door.

He stopped in his tracks though.
Strange symbols appeared all around the door accompanied by alien whispers.
He had seen some things in his travels around space, but this was unique, a shiver ran through his beard.

Firsty looked left and right at the corridors, which he had been wandering for hours.
They all looked the same, metallic, smooth, with no distinguishing features to speak of, and lit by an unseen light source, “weird, where does that light come from?” He thought to himself.

He started towards the strange door again, confident somehow that the door had recognized him as an engineer. His instincts appeared to be correct as the door slid up and disappeared.

With a tight grip on his toolbag Firsty strode into the room. The door reappeared behind him and slid shut.

Gregson the engineer stood in a glowing cube of a room.
There was one thing in the room and that was a shiny black box stuck right in the centre.
“Quite cool for an engine room.” thought Firsty.
The box was about three feet tall and five all around. Thirsty gazed at the shiny pitch box. It had of course, just like the rest of the ship, no markings, no seams, but this particular object did have Firsty’s attention.

He felt something, a vibration, a throbbing of energy.
As he stood transfixed, a lid appeared all around the top of the box and began to lift clear of the stationery object. The lid spun away from the base and floated towards the luminous ceiling
Firsty’s face and beard and cool stripey top were suddenly bathed in a bright blue light.

Firsty dropped his tool bag.

WHAT HAS FIRSTY DISCOVERED,?

DO WE CARE?,

NO WE DON’T,

EVEN MORE REASON TO TUNE IN NEXT
WEEK FOLKS, SEE YOU THEN FOR THE EPISODE ENTITLED, “WHERE IS YOUR JACKET FIRSTY?”
